Open space mini-park idea

In inner-city suburbs with a high density of houses:


The council could purchase houses as they come on to the market, knock them down and create small parks the size of a house block.


Advantages:

- less traffic congestion.

- increased amenity for the suburb residents from the mini-parks.

- more parking places per resident.

- aim for a target of 8% of houses knocked down over time.

- higher property prices for current residents.


Disadvantages

- slightly fewer customers for local businesses but this could be offset by residents going out more frequently due to less traffic congestion.
